... redesigns and restores old homes, and his master carpentry skills are sought after wherever he goes. When he is not enjoying the art of the rehab, which he has been doing for most of his career, Tom builds sound sculptures from exotic hardwoods and metal. Their striking simplicity reveals a strength and familiarity that combines classic Eastern line and contemporary Western art.

Fashioned from recycled acetylene tanks, sandblasted and finished in either wrought iron, copper or chrome, the sculptures are cut into various sizes to create specific resonances. They can be placed in a corner to soften the contour of a room, near plants, and accented with stones to evoke a sense of quiet mediation.

Paulsin works primarly by commission. He designs each piece to work within a specific area: to integrate within a home's interior, to compliment a garden or lanai, or as the focus of an entryway.
